Boho Chic Style, Tween Bedroom Makeover.

FINALLY FINISHED!  Just recently, we decided to completely makeover my daughters bedroom.  She is now 11 and we wanted to update her look and style.

THIS IS BEFORE:

Previously, we had been using some gorgeous family heirloom antique furniture.  The size of the pieces were too big for the room and everything was PINK.  Time for an update and making better use of the space.  We passed the furniture pieces to a family member and started fresh.  We only used the armoire in the new bedroom, but gave it an updated look and downsized to a twin bed.

ANOTHER BEFORE:

So, the new theme would be a bit of Shabby Chic, Bohemian.  We named it BOHO CHIC.

The color scheme and design are a softer and toned down style, using mixed and  matched furnishings that were painted and re purposed and a custom made daybed.

The antique armoire was painted with my old friend: "Old White" chalk paint.

This piece is about 100 years old and took more coats of paint than any piece I had ever painted.  But the finished look with the worn patina is fantastic.  I think the wood was "thirsty"!  The armoire is great functionality for the room also.  We store her clothing and TV behind the doors.

The little desk was a find from a local thrift shop where all proceeds go to "Youth In Need."
( I know this photo shows unfinished, without handles, funny story... I had glass pulls for the drawers, but I dropped them on garage floor and they broke and I am waiting for the replacements to arrive.)

The finish I chose for this desk, was a bit Bohemian.  I used "Louis Blue" and "Old White", both chalk paints, by Annie Sloan and clear finish wax to seal!  I really love the little vintage glass pulls.

Remember that Chair Makeover I did a tutorial on earlier this month?  It turned out to be
a perfect little sitting spot for the desk.

The painted floors were a budget friendly alternative to carpet, or hardwood.  I am going to share the tutorial soon, on how I finished them.

Here, we showcased that little brown elephant we purchased for only $.50 at a garage sale.  A little paint and accessories: crown and scarf, and he is a perfect addition.

We absolutely love how the daybed turned out!  My daughter loves sleeping here and lounging to do homework, talking to friends and watching movies.  Now, having a twin size bed, frees up alot of space to move about the room.

We achieved a more spacious and calming retreat, while on a budget.  Here is how we did it:

  1. I can imagine your daughter loves her new room. Much more appropriate for a preteen. Isn't it funny the difference in what kids like from 10 to 11? They begin to change their ideas on lots of things it seems at that age. I would have thought she was older than 11 from the picture on next post about the garage sale trampoline. She looks about 12 or 13. Very pretty young lady.
It's hard isn't it when they start to really show how much they're growing up?
I had 2 girls 10 yrs. apart. 2 boys between.
I'd so love to have that time back again. Now our youngest grandchild is 13 and oldest about 23. Makes me feel like the years flew by. Just feeling melancholy tonight. Happy Days

    1. Thank you for your Room love! It is amazing how much my children have changed in just the past few years! They grow up so fast! I wish I could keep them small and under my wing always, but alas I know that is not my job! My job is to guide, nurture, love, support my children to become responsible and loving, God fearing adults one day! I just make sure to have fun along the way! Thank you so much for your sweet comments! Have a good day!
